In addition, transport can be a problem: I'd like to visit our country pubs more often, but in most instances that would involve driving.

I get the impression that most branches tend to do the best they can - after all they're all unpaid volunteers working for the campaign in their spare time.

The points about the guide being out of date is true of most printed publications, but in my view the GBG remains the best beer and pub guide available.Neville Grundyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10923209266005338452noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6215204969650872701.post-87531725650089267592011-09-23T07:53:47.445+01:002011-09-23T07:53:47.445+01:00"I find the GBG useful when I'm on unfami..."I find the GBG useful when I'm on unfamiliar territory but remember that not all pubs that are excluded have bad beer. "

That's a very good and fair point and a little acknowledgement of that point within the GBG and that it is a guide - a snapshot - and that people should not use it as a tablet of stone, might well be helpful.

Most people with common sense know that of course, but still.Tandlemanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06804499573827044693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6215204969650872701.post-25188077671579700702011-09-22T22:59:56.675+01:002011-09-22T22:59:56.675+01:00My branch uses a 0-4 scoring system (including fra...My branch uses a 0-4 scoring system (including fractions) and converts NBSS scores to fit in with this. We do still manage to include a fair selection of tied houses as well as multi-beer pubs although, to be honest, most of our pub company pubs with a couple of rotating guests are, well, a bit crap. There is a problem that three multi-beer pubs get more beer scores than all the rest put together :-(

Hard to be specific about what could be done to improve it, but certainly from my point of view the GBG is much less of a definitive guide than it once was.Curmudgeonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02558747878308766840noreply@blogger.com
