Cains Brewery in Last Chance Saloon

So Cains are pulling out of the supermarket canned beer market and are hoping to develop a 'Brewery Village' with a hotel, cinema, supermarket and apartments. The brewery tap will be extended to allow increased number of brewery tours and the brewery itself will be modernised and re-positioned as a 'craft brewery'.

I have to say that I'm not a big fan of Cains. As part of the CAMRA Members' Investment Club I saw a large sum of our money go down the drain when Cains went into administration not that long after offering a share issue. Surprise, surprise the owners purchased the company for a knock-down price and started up again. Nothing illegal, it happens all the time, but it cost me money. Also, their beers are pretty rubbish in my opinion. Bland throughout the range the Mild was the one beer of theirs that I liked so they promptly scrapped it. They were the obvious future beneficiary in Liverpool of the Locale campaign but took their eye off the ball and the likes of Liverpool Organic stepped in. You'd be hard pressed to find their beers in any of Liverpool's better real ale ale pubs.

Their real problem is the size of the brewery. It is a huge site and operates at a fraction of capacity. I doubt if it was fully utilised when its predecessor Higsons was at the height of its powers. I very much doubt that Cains will ever be successful in the cask or craft market.

  1. Agreed - the current owners have always seemed rather dodgy operators to me. And that episode underlines why the CMIC should steer clear of anything resembling "venture capital" and stick to established companies with a track record of success.

  2. I came across this news today and have just done a post on this, only to find you beat me to it. I used to like Cains beers before they went into administration, but they have been mediocre since.

  3. liquered down beer to the bottom end of the customer specifications coupled together with mixing all their products with reclaimed beers (out of spec and not fit for consumption for those who are not sure what that meant) is it any wonder ALL their beers are absolutely tasteless and unfit to consume. People need to avoid running the risk of upset stomachs by drinking this rubbish and stay with a reliable brand such as stella, carlsberg, fosters too name but a few

  4. closing the doors and not paying staff redundancy and yet still trying to con money out of the council for this so called "brewery village". when will you people realize that these dusanj brothers are just a pair of thieves. thieves who take everyones money and send it back home to a nice little indian bank. And what does the taxman and the council do...nothing, just give em more money.
Can these people in authority not wake up and see what is happening. Why don't you take the building and the land off them (oh apparently you can't because they put them in their wives and fathers name) and lock them up for fraudulent dealing. they are not creating 800 jobs. They are doing nothing apart from waiting to get the money from the council so they can do another flit...

PLEASE GET WISE, LOCK THEM UP AND TAKE THE LAND AND BUILDING OFF THEM. THIS IS OUR HERITAGE NOT THEIR NEXT MONEY CONNING SCHEME
