........is the maximum number of drinkers allowed in Port Street Beer House, Manchester. At least that's what the security bod told me as a reaon for leaving me standing on the pavement for five minutes yesterday. Was he telling the truth or being a jobsworth? I've been in any number of pubs much fuller than this was. Or is it because craft beer drinkers need more space to protect or show off their expensive purchases.

I've never been there, and I'm in no rush to visit. Perhaps the craft beer drinkers needed more space for their egos.
ReplyDeleteNice bit of sniping at the poshos, guys. Still unsure why craft beer elicits such a knee-jerk reaction that its drinkers are twats. Shame.
ReplyDeleteZac, who mentioned posh? I was just taking a dig at some who are loud, shows offs, bandwagon-jumpers and/or with more money than sense which applies to some craft drinkers. When in Manchester I visit Port Street, it's Euston Tap, Craft and Cask in London and Moeder Lambic Fonteinas in Brussels. Add the fact that I've just ordered a case from Brewdog I can hardly be called anti-craft beer. I also snigger at CAMRA dinosaurs and tickers despite my 35 years of membership.
ReplyDeleteBTW I was educated at the same direct grant grammar school as the new DG of the BBC so I suppose that makes me posh too.
Yeah, fair point. Knee-jerk comment, sorry.
